HISTORIC ZONING

Planning case 7079: hearings and status →

What is a planning & zoning application?

A planning and zoning application is a request to change or clarify how a property may be used or developed under Louisville Metro's zoning code — for example changing its zoning district, requesting an exception, or appealing a zoning decision.

Planning & Design Services staff review the application first and publish a recommendation. Depending on the type, the final decision is made by the Planning Commission, the Board of Zoning Adjustment, or Metro Council.

Staff review is generally followed by a scheduled public hearing, where the deciding body hears the case and votes to approve, approve with conditions, or deny.

A filed application is not a decision — the zoning on the property does not change, and no use is authorized, until the deciding body acts.
