What is a Board of Zoning Adjustment hearing?

The Board of Zoning Adjustment decides requests to depart from the Land Development Code on one property — variances, conditional use permits, and appeals of staff decisions. It does not change a property's zoning.

The Board votes at a public hearing after Office of Planning staff present the case.

At the hearing the applicant speaks first, then others in support, then the opposition, then a short rebuttal; the Board then discusses and acts. To speak, fill out a speaker form. Written comments sent to the case manager named on the agenda go into the official case file.
