What is a Planning Commission hearing?

The Planning Commission holds the public hearing on rezonings and on changes to the Land Development Code, and makes a recommendation on each.

For a rezoning, the Commission recommends and the legislative body — Metro Council, or a small city with its own zoning authority — makes the final decision.

Staff, the applicant, supporters and opponents are heard, then the Commission votes to recommend approval or denial, continues the hearing, or defers. The Commission's vote on a rezoning is a recommendation, not the final decision.
