What is a restaurant inspection?

A restaurant inspection is a routine check of a food service establishment by a public health inspector, recorded here with the score and grade the inspector assigned that day.

Louisville Metro's public health department conducts and scores the inspection. The establishment does not score itself.

The score becomes part of the establishment's public inspection history. A low score can trigger a required follow-up inspection; each inspection is its own record, not a running average.

An inspection score is a point-in-time reading, not a running grade for the restaurant — the score on this record describes conditions on the day of this inspection, not before or after it.
